Pinwheel from Popsicle Sticks Easy Tutorial For Kids

Pinwheel is a kind of toy that every kid enjoys as they lift their pinwheel in the air and it just keeps rotating. It is even more delightful when you make a pinwheel from popsicle sticks which rotates on its own and doesn’t need air.

So, here is an easy to follow steps that you can follow to make your own unique pinwheel that will rotate endlessly without much effort. Let’s begin!

Easy To Make Pinwheel Craft Using Popsicle Sticks

Materials Used:

  • Plastic Bottle
  • Popsicle Sticks – 2
  • Glue
  • Thread/Wool
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Colour Markers/ Sketch Pens

Procedure:

Step 1: Poke a Hole In a Plastic Bottle

Take a plastic bottle and scissors. Poke a hole in the middle of the plastic bottle with the help of the scissors. (If child, do it under the guidance of an adult)

With the help of the scissors, again poke a hole in a plastic bottle cap as shown in the picture. (If child, do it under the guidance of an adult).

Step 3: Poke a Hole In Popsicle Sticks

Take two popsicle sticks and scissors. Slowly, poke a hole in the middle of the popsicle sticks as shown. (Do it slowly otherwise, the popsicle sticks will break).

Step 4: Use Scissors

With the help of scissors poke a hole in popsicle sticks. (Do it slowly).

Step 5: Color The Popsicle Sticks

With the help of two different colour markers or colour sketch pens, fill the popsicle with two different colours of your choice.

Step 6: Insert a Skewer

Take a skewer and the coloured popsicle stick. Add a drop of glue and insert the sharp side of the skewer into the already-holed part of the popsicle sticks as shown.

Step 7: Make a Cross And Insert It Into a Skewer

Make a Cross And Insert It Into a Skewer

Repeat the same above step with the same skewer and another coloured popsicle stick. Again add a drop of glue and insert a skewer in an already holed coloured popsicle stick but make a cross as shown.

Step 8: Insert a Wool/Thread

Insert a Wool/Thread

Now, take a wool/thread (preferably wool). Insert the wool/thread into an already-holed plastic bottle.

Step 9: Insert The Plastic Bottle Cap Through The Skewer

Now, take the already-holed plastic bottle cap. Insert the plastic bottle cap through the bottom of the skewer as shown in the picture.

Step 10: Tie a Knot

Take the wool/thread which you have already inserted in the holed plastic bottle, now pull out the wool/thread from the plastic bottle and tie tight knots on the middle of the skewer. This might be a little tricky part but you will get to it.

Step 11: Close The Plastic Bottle Cap

The final and most important step is to close the cap of the plastic bottle after assembling everything together properly. If the skewer goes beyond the size of your plastic bottle, then you can poke a hole in the bottom of the plastic bottle as shown.

This is what your final result will look like. Now, here comes the magic, when you pull part of the wool/thread which is still outside, the cross popsicle sticks will rotate like a pinwheel.
