Easy Paper Cup Octopus with Crown Craft Tutorial For Kids

This activity is great for everyone – even kids! All you need are a few items to make a cute octopus out of a paper cup. Check out our instructions and your kids will have lots of fun and stay busy for a while.

Octopus is a unique aquatic creature with eight legs attached to its body in the middle and scores of tentacles spread across the legs. This tutorial is inspired by this particular ocean creature. And the octopus we will be making in this tutorial is not just any octopus, but  ‘The King Octopus’ with its little golden crown on its head. You just need a cup and some sheets of paper to make this adorable octopus. So, collect all the material required, and let’s start making this octopus craft.

Materials Required

• A blue colored paper cup
• A pair of scissors
• A yellow sheet of paper
• A glue stick
• A pencil
• Sketch pens
• Small silver-colored hearts

Procedure

Step 1: Marking The Paper Cup

Take a blue colored paper cup and with the help of a pencil draw a line around the center of the cup and fifteen equal marks on the rim of the cup.

Step 2: Cutting The Sides Of The Cup Into Strips

With the help of scissors, cut on the marks you made on the rim, starting from the rim up to the middle of the cup where you drew a line earlier. Make fifteen cuts in total creating sixteen strips.

Step 3: Stretching Out The Strips

Stretch out the strip to make it flattened horizontally. See the picture below for reference.

Step 4: Repeating The Process On Alternate Strips

Stretch out the eight alternate strips in the similar fashion you did with the strip in the previous step. Strips now are folded flat up to the middle of the cup. See the picture below for reference.

Step 5: Rolling The Ends Of The Strips

Place a pencil at the end of one of the strips and roll the strip on this pencil. Repeat the process on all the stretched-out strips. Fold the other eight straight alternate strips making them fit in the cup. See the picture below for reference.

Step 6: Working On The Rolled Strips

Open all the rolls you made in the previous step and after doing that, you will see the curved ends of all the eight strips. See the picture below for reference.

Step 7: Making the Eyes, Mouth, and Crown

Take a white sheet of paper and cut out three mall circles. Take a black sketch pen and make a circle at the bottom of the two white circles. Color the area around this drawn circle. Paste the two colored circles at the top of the cup on the same lines at a distance from each other. Take the last small white circle and paste it at the bottom of the cup right in the middle. Outline the circumference of this pasted circle with a red sketch pen.

Now, take a small sheet of yellow chart paper and cut a small crown shape out of it with three pointed tips at the top. Draw dotted lines at the peripheries of this crown. Take three small artificial heart shapes and paste them at the three corners at the top. See the picture below for complete reference.

Our Little Octopus King Craft Is Ready!

Our crowned Octopus king is ready to set out and rule the ocean. It has eight curved legs which resemble a lot to the original. Look at its eyes, little mouth, and pretty little golden crown.
