An organ is a group of tissue that works together to do a particular task within the body. These are the body’s recognizable structures that perform specific functions. We bring to you the Human Major Organ Flashcards to help you teach your students about the major organs in the human body.

  • Lungs – The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs located on either side of the chest. The lungs and respiratory system allow us to breathe.
  • Kidney –  The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs on either side of our spine below our ribs and behind our belly. Kidneys filter our blood, removes waste, and controls the body’s fluid balance.
  • Reproductive System – The reproductive system in human bodies is a collection of internal and external organs in both males and females that work together to procreate.  The major function of the reproductive system is to ensure the survival of the species.
  • Intestine – The intestines are located between the stomach and the anus. It is divided into two major sections; the small intestine and the large intestine. The functions of the small intestine and large intestine are to absorb ingested food and absorb water and excretion of solid waste material respectively.
  • Stomach – The stomach is a pear-shaped bag lying below the diaphragm. The main function of the stomach is the digestion of food.
  • Liver – The liver is the largest organ in the human body. It is a large meaty organ that is found on the right side of the belly. The liver filters the blood coming from the digestive tracts before passing it to the rest of the body.

While red blood cells are not organs per se, these are vital for human existence. Red Blood Cells or RBCs carry fresh oxygen all over the body. It also removes carbon dioxide from our body and brings it to our lungs for it to be exhaled. Red blood cells are made in the bone marrow and have a lifespan of about 120 days.
