While watching the news on BBC or any esteemed news organization, you might have noticed a person waving hands and using different gestures with each word the news anchor says. That person isn’t there waving their hand for nothing instead, he is using sign language to deliver the news to those who can’t hear. Sign languages are languages used to convey meaning to those who can’t hear. Though it is meant primarily to communicate with those who cannot hear, it is good to know sign language generally.

Sign languages are expressed through hand gestures. Though these are expressed through the hand, sign languages are not universal. There are several different sign languages with each country having one of its own. These are fully-fledged languages with their own lexicon and grammar. Such languages are completely separate and distinct from English. It contains all the fundamental features of languages, with its own rules for pronunciation, word formation, and word order.
